A wonderful wine which was recently discovered through genetic mapping of the vines to be “only” 50% Syrah. Future vintages will not be allowed to be labeled varietally. The other 50% is an assortment of all sorts of heritage California grapes: Mission, Carignan, Zinfandel, Trousseau, Barbera and Charbono plus more. The vineyard was planted in the late 1800’s and vines are only replaced when their lives have ended. Certainly the oldest Syrah planting in California. The wine is dark and smoky in the aromas with a surprising brightness on the palate. 95pts Wine Advocate
