James Suckling: 92 Points “A nicely crafted 2017 red with berries, plums and hints of dark chocolate on the nose and palate. Medium body, creamy tannins and a savory finish. Pretty fruit at the end. Drink or hold.”
Wilfred Wong: 93 Points “The 2017 Duckhorn Napa Valley Merlot brings the Right Bank to our part of the world and gives wine lovers a beautiful wine. This wine accurately and lovingly puts Merlot on a pedestal. Its aromas and flavors of boysenberries and subtle oaky notes frame the wine perfectly. Enjoy it with a properly-seasoned Porchetta.”
Founded by Dan and Margaret Duckhorn in 1976, this winery has been crafting classic Napa Valley wines for nearly 40 years. A blend of 88% Merlot, 7% Cabernet Sauvignon, 5% Cabernet Franc the wine was aged in 100% French Oak Château-style Barrels for 15 months. For the second vintage in a row, the quality of the grapes was exceptional throughout Napa Valley.
Producer's Notes: Our Napa Valley Merlot is a complex blend of several individual vineyard lots, incorporating fruit from our estate vineyards and from top independent growers throughout the Napa Valley. The final wine is a rich and cohesive expression of the entire Napa Valley, reflecting the varied microclimates and soils of this unique appellation. This gorgeous wine displays intense aromas of ripe cherry, followed by more nuanced elements of cedar, sweet spices, orange peel and cigar box. On the palate, layers of black raspberry and spiced plum mingle with more savory notes of nutmeg and pencil lead. With firm, well-integrated tannins that extend the finish, this beautifully structured Merlot also promises great ageability.
