Producer's Notes:
Featuring penetrating black cherry and vanilla aromas with just a bit of the classic Rutherford dust, it adds blackcurrant, caramel and tobacco notes on the palate. The voluptuous black fruit is supported by bright acidity and a core of sweet tannin in a well-integrated package that finishes long and smooth. The 2011 vintage was marked by a wet spring and cool summer which delayed ripening of the grapes, but a prolonged Indian Summer led to intensely flavored wines that are stunningly well-balanced. While approachable in its youth, the wine is structured for the long haul; one can confidently cellar it for 10 years or more.
Enjoy it as part of a decadent meal of braised short ribs or rack of lamb with mint jelly.
