Since our origin in 1888, the House of Glunz has been a merchant bottler, bringing in barrels of fortified wine from Europe which we bottled in the cellar of our historic shop. Before the prohibition, we were buying barrels of Bourbon and Rye. Louis Glunz II was one of the first to bottle a 20 Years Old Bourbon for commercial production. We still have some of these now rare bottles of Madeira, Sherry, Cognac, Scotch, Bourbon & Rum in our Spirits Library. We no longer bottle anything in our cellar, but we are still able to use our contacts to source and import exceptional casks.

This Highland Single Malt Scotch, aged 11 years, is nothing short of impressive. Sitting at 92 proof, with no additive color and non chill-filtered, the Macduff selection is approachable yet nuanced with complexities and subtleties making it distinctly a House of Glunz Selection. It is worth noting that the whisky has a deceptively light color as it was aged in a refill Bourbon barrel, which is not an uncommon practice for many Scotch distillers.

Nose: Delicate aromas of creamy butterscotch and burnt caramel are met by richer hints of cocoa powder and grainy toasted cereal. All these aromas are backed by a secondary wave of minerals and graphite pencil shavings.

Palate: A prominent oiliness coats the palate nicely, adding texture and a fullness to the overall light-bodied whisky. While there is no noticeable peaty characteristic with the Macduff selection, its incredibly smooth and linear palate eventually reveals a hearty campfire smokiness that heightens ones senses upon finishing. Trailing notes of toasted oats and dark chocolate continue to speak to its complexity and layers of depth.

This single cask bottling was hand-selected in Scotland by The House of Glunz and is limited to 276 bottles.
